This morning when I looked out the kitchen window I had a great surprise. My Nun's orchids were blooming. This is a terrestrial orchid, meaning it grows in soil. It will bloom in winter and spring. The blooms normally last about a month.
This is a zone 9 and 10 plant, so therefore in Waco we normally grow this as a houseplant. I take mine outside in the spring after the temperatures warm up. In my house I grow in a east facing window. Outside I protect from the afternoon sun. If temperatures are going to be below 40 degrees I will bring my plant indoors. The only problem you need to watch for is scale. I feed my orchids every three months with a slow release fertilizer and fish emulsion every two weeks during the active growth time when it is outside and I'm watering it everyday.
